Ahhh a Ainu Japanese Albino?
Centcomm 20th Apr 2016, 12:06 AM edit delete reply

Ill let Rose answer that one :D
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 12:29 AM edit delete reply

She's not albino....
....
It's freezer burn!

:D
DLKmusic 20th Apr 2016, 12:09 AM edit delete reply

That's actually as gentle as I've ever seen Rose with anything! Are you sure you wanted to let us know you had a soft side, Rose?

(starts cackling maniacally)
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 12:30 AM edit delete reply

A mild threat was involved, come on!
KarToon12 20th Apr 2016, 8:35 AM edit delete reply

That's the REAL secret of Tokyo Rose. ;) XD
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:49 AM edit delete reply

Yeah, she's secretly a big softie !

We're on to you, Rose !
You softie, you. :)
Dragonrider 20th Apr 2016, 12:09 AM edit delete reply

Gonna have to chew on this awhile, That story doesn't hold water thinking back to Luna Star. She had been in contact with Gali's father, taught a class in AIS Mechanics under an assumed identity, engineered the mission to meet the Epiphytes had human agents running around Earth and Luna. I think she is lying by selective omission of full facts. She has divulged enough to calm Aeneas down but still has not revealed the full extent of her mask.
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 12:43 AM edit delete reply

Her mental awareness and ability to communicate increased over time; she didn't need to be physically active to do any of the things that she did in Luna Star. (Not even teaching, thanks to holographic technology.)
Stormwind13 20th Apr 2016, 10:45 AM edit delete reply

How do you know that Tokyo Rose isn't a computer program right now, Dragonrider? You've never seen her, but you communicate with her. For that matter, I could be a computer program. How would you know? No visuals, so no Uncanny Valley. Could just be a successful Turing Test. :-)
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:50 AM edit delete reply

Aww shit, I thought I'd left the matrix! Damn Oracle lied to me...
Sheela 21st Apr 2016, 1:50 PM edit delete reply

This is not the Matrix you're looking for.

*Jedi paw-wave*
Howard 20th Apr 2016, 1:55 AM edit delete reply
I get the feeling by the way this all seemed warped up we are not gonna learn why she agreed to be frozen like that. And if it would be possible for her to ever go back to being analog.
mjkj 20th Apr 2016, 2:01 AM edit delete reply

So, that is the short version of how to make a Tokyo Rose popsicle....

@alt text: butterfly???
Gilrandir 20th Apr 2016, 3:21 AM edit delete reply
Rose seems to be implying that she's blurred the line so much that she's not sure if she's an A.I. that has memories of being organic, or an organic intelligence that has memories of being an A.I.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

Also, she's cocooned very nicely, I wonder how the butterfly that comes out of the cocoon will look ?
Tahg 20th Apr 2016, 2:05 AM edit delete reply
So, does this make TR about 1500 years old? With upgrades from the Epiphytes around 900 years ago. All technical aspects aside, I don't know how she keeps from getting bored at times.
xpacetrue 20th Apr 2016, 3:32 AM edit delete reply

How does she keep from getting bored? Isn't it obvious? She keeps occupying herself with other people's business... world-wide! If you include Luna, make that interplanetary. Then there's cyberspace... She's a habitual busybody. It's not a hobby for her. It's a way of life. :D

Also: I think if this became public knowledge, people would become very jealous. A lot of people would like a lifespan measured in centuries or millennia. But then, a lot of other people suspect that it may be more of a curse than a blessing.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:54 AM edit delete reply

I think it was mentioned somewhere that the average human lifespan in New Troy was around 160, so they already have a decently long life.
Dragonrider 20th Apr 2016, 12:32 PM edit delete reply

@Sheela: In most cases make that an overly long life.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 2:49 PM edit delete reply

I dunno, I think 160 years sounds pretty good to me.
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:01 PM edit delete reply

Roughly 1500ish, yes. And xpacetrue's pretty much got it right--Other People's Business is a great way to stay busy.
grahamf 20th Apr 2016, 2:12 AM edit delete reply
So when do we get the "Beginning of Rose" prequel?
HiFranc 20th Apr 2016, 2:32 AM edit delete reply

I would like to read that.
Howard 20th Apr 2016, 2:37 AM edit delete reply
Can you imagine all the new and colorful ways to curse people out that the dynamic duo would have to come up with to make that happen!!
HiFranc 20th Apr 2016, 2:49 AM edit delete reply

I have confidence in their abilities.
CptKerion 21st Apr 2016, 3:56 PM edit delete reply
Are we sure that the colorful language isn't a development of being a bored meat popsicle for many centuries?
jamie59 20th Apr 2016, 2:28 AM edit delete reply

This rabbit hole keeps getting weirder & weirder said Alice.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:55 AM edit delete reply

And then it turned into a foxhole, complete with WWII veterans and kittens !
HiFranc 20th Apr 2016, 2:31 AM edit delete reply

How much of those centuries can she remember? How much of those memories are in her head and how much are in computer memory? How can she still be compassionate after all the heartache she's experienced?
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:05 PM edit delete reply

Every so often, she does get a burst of utter howling frustration ("WHY AM I BOTHERING TO HERD HUMANS, THEY'RE ALL FUCKING STUPID AS HELL AND BLINDLY SUICIDAL ON A SPECIES LEVEL"). Kusanagi carefully locks her out of all the military systems during those times. :D
HiFranc 20th Apr 2016, 6:24 PM edit delete reply

I take it the operative word is "carefully"?
Falanin 20th Apr 2016, 8:34 PM edit delete reply
Would rather have to be, wouldn't it? Rose could slap her down, take back control and nuke everything *anyway* if she got pissed enough, most likely.
Tokyo Rose 21st Apr 2016, 10:00 AM edit delete reply

Sometimes, you don't need to be able to completely stop someone--you just need to be able to make them pause long enough to reconsider.
HiFranc 20th Apr 2016, 2:53 AM edit delete reply

As opposed to a walking albino? ;-)
xpacetrue 20th Apr 2016, 3:22 AM edit delete reply

"...you'll be blowing bubbles at the wrong side of the surface."

Now that's a metaphor which I have never heard before! Do I dare ask for a translation...? [unsure]

Umm... On further thought, I think it means that she'll mess with his mind so much that he will think that up is down and down is up.
StellarJay 20th Apr 2016, 4:36 AM edit delete reply

@xpacetrue
Don't forget the comment about an anchor being able to drag his ass down if he wasn't careful. That would leave him blowing bubbles at the wrong side of the surface, while he drowns.
Rose called this death threat "mild".
Stormwind13 20th Apr 2016, 9:49 AM edit delete reply

That's how I read it too, Stellar Jay. If Aeneas tells anyone, he will be (cyberspace equivalent of) sleeping with the fishies. Guess since she didn't dunk his head 'underwater' Rose considers it mild.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:56 AM edit delete reply

*rushes in, looking wildly around*

Did someone mention fish ? :D
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:06 PM edit delete reply

@StellarJay

Bingo!
CptKerion 21st Apr 2016, 3:57 PM edit delete reply
In this case I think she's implying that she's going to blast him until what's left of his surface has sunk beneath the earth's crust.
Gilrandir 20th Apr 2016, 3:27 AM edit delete reply
Given her predilections and her longevity, by now the contents of the Tokyo Rose Swear Jar must rival the GNP of a small city state.

Or maybe it would if the Three Treasures didn't use it to fund their periodic wild sake binges. ^_^ At least we don't have to worry about them being able to afford the good stuff.
velvetsanity 20th Apr 2016, 6:51 AM edit delete reply

It probably would, if she didn't use it to fund her porn and sex toy binges
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 11:58 AM edit delete reply

Wha ? .. hey ...
Porn is serious business, okay?
That shit is budgeted.
Can't leave that to the coincidence of the swear jar.
velvetsanity 20th Apr 2016, 12:11 PM edit delete reply

Why else would she swear so much, Sheela? :D

Her monthly porn budget probably runs out only about three hours into the month ^_~
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 2:50 PM edit delete reply

Hah !
Yeah, you think she would have to be a producer to get enough ?
velvetsanity 20th Apr 2016, 3:19 PM edit delete reply

Oh, three hours is assuming she *is* a producer :D
Sheela 21st Apr 2016, 8:10 AM edit delete reply

I wonder what kinda porn Rose would make ?
Tokyo Rose 21st Apr 2016, 10:01 AM edit delete reply

The kind where very sexy people are having very sexy sex, of course.
Sheela 21st Apr 2016, 10:54 AM edit delete reply

Wait, ordinary straight sex ?

... I'm .. oddly disappointed!
xpacetrue 20th Apr 2016, 3:48 AM edit delete reply

"...while you've been gawking up my skirt..."

:D That's a rather apt metaphor for how Aeneas practically barged in and demanded Rose lay bare her naked truth, her private secret.

The metaphor is also so very... Rose.
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:06 PM edit delete reply

It was one of those lines that just came to me, and I loved it so much that I had to use it. :D
Rashala 20th Apr 2016, 4:06 AM edit delete reply

*currently trapped in a storage room by his own electronics for the freezer geezer remark*

Albino really so you have violet eyes? And p?ease call off the coffee maker it's trying to percolate me!
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:07 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure it's not really trying to do that.

"PER-CO-LATE!"

Okay, maybe it is. Just climb up on a shelf or something, it hasn't got antigrav...
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 6:30 PM edit delete reply

It may not have antigrav, but it can ejaculate hot cofee at range of up to 6 feet!

.... and who's bright idea was it to upgrade it with that little surprise ?
Rashala 21st Apr 2016, 3:59 AM edit delete reply

Oh yeah a shelf.....right in range of the killer ceiling fans and my electric Razer that's shaving who is a geezer now smartalek in the carpet!!!!!!

I am sure feeder is laughing herself sick watching me fight off my microwave and foster with a broom!
Tokyo Rose 21st Apr 2016, 10:12 AM edit delete reply

Aren't you glad you have a broom? Just imagine what the vacuum cleaner's got planned.
xpacetrue 20th Apr 2016, 8:03 PM edit delete reply

Violet? To me, Tokyo Rose's eyes appear a very deep, glowing red to me - scarlet, even. Until I heard that she's an albino, I had attributed that to a preference she made for her avatar.

(BTW: Until the big reveal, it had not registered on me that Rose actually uses dolls just like an AIS. I remember, now, that side story with the plastic toy the fox robot found in the ruins and how someone left it on Rose's workbench as a dirty joke. Rose was not an avatar for that scene.)

Trivia time: According to wikipedia, 'true' violet eyes in humans occur only due to albinism. Some non-albinos are attributed violet eyes (such as Elizabeth Taylor), but it's not a true eye color. (Sounded to me like dark blue can appear violet due to room lighting and such.)

cattservant 20th Apr 2016, 4:28 AM edit delete reply

Anchors! From someone who had/has a few...
Gilrandir 20th Apr 2016, 5:00 AM edit delete reply
Perhaps you and Aeneas should enroll in an anchor management program? There are none currently with openings, but there is a weighting list. Or, if you sign up for their mailing list, they can send you a chain letter when the next class is scheduled.
pkrankow 20th Apr 2016, 7:26 AM edit delete reply

this pun might be at the end of its rode.
Wolfsbane 20th Apr 2016, 11:07 AM edit delete reply

They should. It seems that Aeneas' anger is really deep sea-ted. I mean, he has kind of been acting like a w-anchor.
Wolfsbane 20th Apr 2016, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

Anchor? I hardly know-er! <ba-dum tsh!>
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:08 PM edit delete reply

@Gilrandir

Goddamn. Mr. Black would be proud of that shit.
Gilrandir 20th Apr 2016, 8:01 PM edit delete reply
Thank you.
Stormwind13 20th Apr 2016, 7:37 AM edit delete reply

Rose is a "gene-joked freak"? Does that mean she is a created entity, someone spliced her genes to achieve her? Is she another Friday? I've taken gene-joked in the comic to mean someone is doing gene manipulation which is easiest on a blank template, which (to me) means someone mixed her up in a lab.

What would have her creators' been trying for? Was she considered a successful design or not? Was freezing Rose her idea or someone else's? Inquiring minds want to know. :-)
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 12:00 PM edit delete reply

Maybe she's the granddaughter of Frankenstein ?
velvetsanity 20th Apr 2016, 12:12 PM edit delete reply

Maybe Maxus is her descendant?
chk 20th Apr 2016, 12:05 PM edit delete reply

I'm sure the devilish duo will explain all that in the next few pages.

They would never leave us hanging.
velvetsanity 20th Apr 2016, 12:13 PM edit delete reply

You haven't been paying much attention, have you? They very frequently leave us hanging over the side of a cliff with only very old, very frayed rope to hold onto until Monday...and often seem to take delight in it lol
sigpig 20th Apr 2016, 12:46 PM edit delete reply

And, far too often, change scenes on those Mondays...
TheSkulker 21st Apr 2016, 4:38 AM edit delete reply

@velvetsanity, Look closely at the right cheek of chk's avatar. There's a little bump from his tongue.
Stormwind13 20th Apr 2016, 1:30 PM edit delete reply

Have you been reading the same comic as the rest of us, chk?!? O.o
Gilrandir 20th Apr 2016, 1:46 PM edit delete reply
@Chk, you left off the <sarcasm> tag again. ^_^
chk 20th Apr 2016, 4:59 PM edit delete reply

Yeah. I was pretty much joking.
Centcomm 20th Apr 2016, 6:02 PM edit delete reply

Sets up cliffhangers for the next six weeks..
Stormwind13 21st Apr 2016, 5:53 AM edit delete reply

::Gets out the pitchforks and torches. Points at CentComm:: EVIL... Get her! :-D
Morituri 20th Apr 2016, 12:23 PM edit delete reply
If she's noticeably psionic, it's sort of amazing that she didn't 'hear' the Epiphytes coming from a very long way off and have a major crisis just trying to stay sane during the events of Luna Star. They were getting to people who didn't even *know* they had any psychic potential.
Timotheus 20th Apr 2016, 1:16 PM edit delete reply

She was probably one of the few to unknowingly have a functional defense against the Epiphyte's call system due to her years of psychic activity.
Stormwind13 20th Apr 2016, 1:24 PM edit delete reply

Interesting point, Morituri. Rose may have been shielded in some manner. Nothing was ever said that Jet came up with the ONLY shielding method.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 2:52 PM edit delete reply

If I understood it correctly, the people who got hit, was the ones who had implants, the pure humans didn't suffer.
And since Tokyo Rose invades technology, and not the other way around, she peobably don't have a lot of wetware in her - So she could conceivably be immune to it.
Centcomm 20th Apr 2016, 3:20 PM edit delete reply

Rose was immune to the dangerous effects of the Beacon in Luna Star due to being in Cryo. Not to mention that as you said she does not have any hardware implanted. She could hear it but it made no sense and had no ill effects.
Tokyo Rose 20th Apr 2016, 6:12 PM edit delete reply

I wouldn't say "no ill effects". To her, it was the psychic equivalent of "The Song That Never Ends", played just quietly enough to be a constant annoyance, but not the kind of thing you could file a noise complaint about to get your ASSHOLE UPSTAIRS NEIGHBORS to TURN DOWN that HORRIBLE RAP SHIT.
Sheela 20th Apr 2016, 6:32 PM edit delete reply

... ohhh, HIM!

He's my student, he's made a video 'n' everything.
I'm so proud of him. :)
Stormwind13 21st Apr 2016, 9:11 AM edit delete reply

Somehow Rose I don't see the Epiphytes being into rap. I had them more into ROCK music or maybe New Age. :-D
Tokyo Rose 21st Apr 2016, 10:08 AM edit delete reply

Enya and Loreena McKennitt.
Howard 21st Apr 2016, 2:42 AM edit delete reply

Why is Rose in Cryo in the first place?
velvetsanity 21st Apr 2016, 2:53 PM edit delete reply

Entirely for the sole purpose of leaving us with cliffhanger-y questions, of course. "Wait and see, all will be revealed - or not muhuhuahahahahahahaha!!!!!!"
StephenHFoster 21st Apr 2016, 4:39 PM edit delete reply
I recall a SF short story some rears ago, I do not recall author, with a fellow trapped and immobilized (maybe nearly dead) on one of the icy moons of Saturn or Jupiter. He sees the sun rise then suddenly set and he is awake and aware all night long - his nervous system is a superconductor at that temperature.
Gilrandir 21st Apr 2016, 7:15 PM edit delete reply
I believe the story is "Wait It Out" by Larry Niven and that it takes place on Pluto, rather than any moon of Saturn or Jupiter.
StephenHFoster 22nd Apr 2016, 12:24 AM edit delete reply
That does sound familiar. Cold enough, certainly.
