Dolly is one of my favorite charcters in this strip :D and she was intended to be a "bit part" shows you what I know.

Shows you at least had the good sense to get out of her way when she all but took over your comic! :-D
Centcomm 29th Jun 2013, 3:47 PM edit delete reply

pretty much ... would YOU argue with her?
Stormwind13 29th Jun 2013, 4:18 PM edit delete reply

Not THAT stupid. :-) Dive for cover and wait until Dolly is done rearranging things to suit herself.

"

I like her comment about robots being "too human sometimes, but not human enough at other times". It's an observation about movie robots in general that few make.

Robots seem to be in this middle ground between being pets and people (in movies, TV, and comics anyway). It's cute when they're doing things for you or saying cool stuff, but once they start trying to be human for real, there's two reactions. You're either excited that they're progressing (especially if you're in a situation where a robot is all you have to talk to), or you're creeped out because in your logical mind, a robot is still a machine that shouldn't feel.

Data from Star Trek is probably the best example of this. "

The concept is "uncanny valley".

On one side are the simulacra which pass the Turing Test IRL, and can't be distinguished from human. On the other side are chrome Cylons who don't at all look human. Somewhere in between are the things that your brain can't suss out, therefore marks as untrustworthy.

Really good animation in videogames has managed to climb out of the Unheimlichthal. (Pardon my Deutsch.) And then... there's Mass Effect Andromeda...

Damn was Lynn an insensitive twit here. :-p I mean, the expressions on Dolly's face (in the OLD body even) speak of the pain Lynn is so causally causing her. If Lynn wasn't so wrapped up in herself, she might have at least looked and realized what she had done. :-7

::HUGS Dolly::

Yeah, Lynn went a bit overboard there...

But I believe later she will change her view of her.

Of course Dolly <spoilers redacted> then...

Centcomm 13th Aug 2014, 7:33 PM edit delete reply

Ouch... Poor Dolly. That's gotta hurt coming from your objectively most important charge.
Centcomm 5th Nov 2014, 5:36 AM edit delete reply

Yes... that was a knife in the gut for poor Dolly..Dolly adores her family.
DLKmusic 6th Nov 2014, 3:30 AM edit delete reply

When I read this the first time, Dolly seemed to be a lot more stoic. here you can see her feelings are really hurt.

(grumble, grumble, she's 18 now, you can't send her to bed without supper no more, grumble grumble)
Centcomm 6th Nov 2014, 3:34 AM edit delete reply

Yep - Better Model- I spent a lot of time improving Dolly's looks in the new pages :D looks like it was worth it :D

Ya, ya, I know it's July 2015, but I wanted to wait until LS was wrapped up, mkay? I love how you captured the chrome reflections in Panel 5, and Lynn is lucky she wasn't backhanded into next week.
Centcomm 10th Jul 2015, 3:38 PM edit delete reply

GhostRider 20th Nov 2015, 11:03 AM edit delete reply
What is Dolly holding? (It would be hilarious if it was the cars drive brain.)
rufiangel 15th Dec 2015, 11:17 PM edit delete reply

Awwww no! D: Dolly looks so sad!! Dangit, Lynn, couldn't you at least have said all that when, I dunno, Dolly wasn't standing right next to you? :'D
Centcomm 15th Dec 2015, 11:25 PM edit delete reply
