And the question is, is Acantha's heart rated for long term operation?

Yeah. That could get stressful, right?
Oldarmourer 6th Jun 2019, 5:20 PM edit delete reply
the question is "did Cella bring spare panties ?" hers might be soaked in transmission fluid or the equivalent...unless Noctis and her teed an act up on the way there, I can't see someone in that group not getting their spider sense atingle ;)
lirvilas 5th Jun 2019, 12:09 AM edit delete reply

Noctis may be a bit unhappy about her role in this.

I'd be surprised if the extraction plan didn't involve wasting her ASAP.
megados 5th Jun 2019, 12:14 AM edit delete reply

Ohshit! This is a not-good development. :(

The question remains: Who has the authority to order Noctis? Logically, she should still working for "The Glory of Nova Roma". To supersede that, it would have to be someone in high authority, knowing her desire toward that end, was to have Acantha rise to the Throne. Noctis is going to be . . . pissed.
Tom 6th Jun 2019, 9:12 AM edit delete reply
I think it might be a technopath what with all the forshadowing we have seen in that area. But yes I assume there will be much anger and depending on what happens to Acantha much guilt or even MEGA guilt. :(
megados 6th Jun 2019, 11:22 AM edit delete reply

You could be right, and I did think about that. What bothers me about it, though, was remembering back to Columbina, when she was being controlled. She was being made to attack, and all the while, her inhibitor was punishing, and attempting to correct her, and we see no such action here with Noctis. That leads me to one of two conclusions: either Noctis' inhibitor isn't working, or she isn't being controlled in that way.
StLOrca 5th Jun 2019, 12:57 AM edit delete reply

Double-plus ungood!

So far I count two kidnappers: the pistol-armed one with the virtual image override, and the other one with the dual-barreled heavy ordnance. And, undoubtedly, many more twists to come.
Rashala 5th Jun 2019, 3:00 AM edit delete reply

For the love of Helios...didn't these idiots learn what happened to the last morons to kidnap her....the phrase that comes to my mind here is...these two are deader than disco
mjkj 5th Jun 2019, 4:13 AM edit delete reply

another abduction? was one kidnapping not enough? :o :o :o

poor Noctis... I hope she can break free of the mind control soon...

...hmmm, I guess Cent will be furious; seeing her white angel is involved she has immediate intel...
HiFranc 5th Jun 2019, 7:10 AM edit delete reply

That depends on whether communications are compromised.

{edit}
Given how they got Noctis to bring everyone there, they probably have.

I'm looking forward to seeing a white angel in action. She doesn't seem concerned about the sword at her throat so much as wondering who is responsible. Something tells me this isn't going to go as smoothly as the bad folks expect.

As in, drop commando's suddenly appearing EVERYWHERE ?
She's not a War-AI for nothing, and pissing her off is frankly bad for your health.
Eve Z. 5th Jun 2019, 6:53 AM edit delete reply

Just as they were wondering if the new droid council member can be hacked and it being hard because of the synthetic brain, now this makes me wonder if Noctis has a positronic one since she can be controlled?
HiFranc 5th Jun 2019, 7:07 AM edit delete reply

I still think the method of attack is through her inhibitor.
Just_IDD 5th Jun 2019, 9:26 AM edit delete reply
Is this another Technopath attack? Noctis seems to have all the luck....I thought paths were supposed to be rare...
megados 5th Jun 2019, 9:20 AM edit delete reply

NT androids don't have inhibitors; they are, for the most part, outlawed there. Noctis has one, (being from New Rome, where they are required) but she had received orders/directives from someone at Steph's shop. So far, I don't think Noctis' inhibitor has acted yet.
HiFranc 5th Jun 2019, 11:04 AM edit delete reply

That’s one of the reasons why I think that the inhibitor was the attack vector.

Another is:
http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/1632

Also, they were able to contact Noctis without anyone hearing, Centcomm knowing and, despite being unknown to her, could give her direct commands:
http://datachasers.thecomicseries.com/comics/1637
megados 5th Jun 2019, 11:18 AM edit delete reply

There was some confusion over that. In the A/N Here, Tokyo Rose explains that Noctis was initially going to be isolated, and an individual entered and approached her, rather than it being a covert electronic communication.
Sheela 6th Jun 2019, 6:47 AM edit delete reply

Might be a good reason for getting rid of the inhibitor, eh ?

Seems like Noctis may have to subject herself to all sorts of stressful stuff, if that has to happen. And Dr Silver really HATES those inhibitors .. with a passion!

HiFranc 5th Jun 2019, 11:08 AM edit delete reply

I suspect that, after this is sorted out, Centcomm will find a way of pushing Noctis and Minx together. Aeneas would probably agree to that. Max might.
Some Ed 5th Jun 2019, 11:23 AM edit delete reply
If the method of attack was through the inhibitor, then Noctis isn't at fault, New Rome is.

I seem to recall this sort of thing was part of the reason that inhibitors are illegal in NT. It's plausible that exploits on inhibitors are rather well known among the portion of the population who would like to know them. I mean, why crack down on sharing knowledge that is supposed to be useless? Especially when that knowledge being well shared is part of the political lubrication for making sure that knowledge is useless.
Centcomm 5th Jun 2019, 10:13 PM edit delete reply

Minx???
oldastronomer 6th Jun 2019, 3:43 AM edit delete reply
Minx having been controlled by hacking of her inhibitor by crazy psychopath killer; also Kelly for same reason, may be suitable councillors for post action Noctis debriefing. Much similar to human treatment. Crossing fingers....

It was even more of an assault because the psychopath put one on her. He also waited until she knew the people enough to love them before forcing her to kill them.

Gonna guess blinders is some sort of EMF jammer to keep our presumed kidnappees from getting a signal to reinforcements.
Also gonna guess they hacked the inhibitor.
knuut 5th Jun 2019, 1:28 PM edit delete reply
OK, why wouldn't some sort of EMF jammer going off in close proximity to a Taylor and a visiting Head of State be an equally blatant alert. ...maybe not evaporate the entire baddy but certainly the gun and likely the hands holding it (and while she is at it Noctus's sword and [replaceable] sword arm).
CptKerion 5th Jun 2019, 2:32 PM edit delete reply
Possibly, but an alert would be going out one way or another, and this would provide obfuscation to foil pursuit.

Oldarmourer 5th Jun 2019, 3:31 PM edit delete reply
hmm...the clot thickens...

Let me think for a moment, not so much on why the gutters are kidnapping people, that's what they do, but why they're taking the huge risk of kidnapping these particular ones...answer: "they're being paid well enough to and they think the toys they were given will put the odds in their favour"

Now who would pay these petty thugs and equip them with beyond-the-state-of-the-art tech to boot ?

The tech can apparently override all VR, security, and from their cockiness even Centcomm's visual/audio/remote/wireless comms. It can also simulate a Cassian's override command or perhaps someone else did that for them. No matter, they appear to be completely confident in it and it appears to be doing what they were told it would do.

Now then, who can issue overrides to Cassians ?

Maxus ?
this doesn't seem to remotely close to anything he'd do to protect Nova Roma and he's likely going to be slightly pissed at whoever did.

Setorius ?
doubtful he has the access or inclination for this level of intrigue but he'd love to watch and figure it out.

Someone on the Nova Roma Senate ?
possibly, but again, who would have access to the tech ? unless someone was paying gutters a retainer and they found something out in the wastes and their owner figured out how to use it.

Luna Star ?
no profit and New Troy gives them a lot of business, that and Athena is still alive, they'd be too scared to...

Deep Blue or the Spartan AI (Agamemnon ? I forget)
doubtful, the situation has increased their safety and stability if nothing else, no point tipping the applecart now.

The Rangers ?
can't see why or how they'd get involved

Epiphytes ?
and risk touching a gutter's mind ? nope.

Tokyo Rose ?
She just went to a lot of effort and spent a lot of resources fixing Aeneas and bringing him back to the AI fold, she doesn't want to destroy that...yet...besides, it's just not her style.

Aeneas ?
I'd think his care for Acantha would still survive and he'd consider such boorish tactics beneath his dignity.

Centcomm herself ?
highly doubtful, this would not go over well with Calliope and it might damage her city or it's reputation, plus again, it's not her style...it might be something she'd be capable of, but it's not likely she's involved and when she finds out someone overrode her monitors she's going to be madder than Maxus.

Kyle ?
at first it was maybe a way to get Lynn into open neutral ground so he could try and apologize in safety, but the gutters completely destroy that theory.

the gutters came up with it all by themselves?
not on their own, nope, they definitely had help.
Oldarmourer 5th Jun 2019, 3:33 PM edit delete reply
cont'd...

Now let me think who might be both capable and motivated..

someone who was drafted by Centcomm, put in her place by an ex running the mission, shot at by a sniper at Noctis's direct order, has an irrational hatred for Calliope Taylor, has just gone through a serious battle and may have a little ptsd waiting in the wings, plus who is entirely capable of not only building the tech we've seen used so far, but who would love to flaunt it in everyone's face and was recently completely immersed in the Nova Roma database and could have found audio logs, even old ones from Valerius, detailed enough to use as Cassian commands or even logs or an undamaged vox from Kali ? Pity Noctis didn't react with more surprise than she did at the commands, or react as if "that directive is impossible, you're dead". I'm not saying it's Dr Silver but other than maybe Tokyo Rose, she's the most capable of pulling it off...

Of course, we all know that I'm completely wrong and there are so many variables I haven't looked at or even thought of, but it makes for a good logic exercise :)

The one thing I do know is that the approaching plot missile is inbound on short final out of left field and it's going to be fun to watch.

tl/dr: no idea, Silver has the motive and capability but would she bother with all that prep and how did she do it in a few days ?

the speed with which this is following on the heels of the events in Nova Roma, which were just a couple of days past hint that this was pre-planned, possibly as a backup for Lynn's initial kidnapping and/or one for Acantha and one of the girls got caught up in the other's kidnapping as a bonus. Dolly has newarmour by now, someone best start shaking.

of course, if Noctis is just playing along to get the prospective kidnappers close enough the ntoo bad for them, who knows what they discussed in the car on the way over ;)
Oldarmourer 5th Jun 2019, 3:54 PM edit delete reply
or maybe it was set up by Calliope herself to impress on Lynn that shouldn't leave the house...ever again !! ;)
HiFranc 6th Jun 2019, 6:06 AM edit delete reply

My bet is that Dari escaped and is seeking revenge.

{edit}
It would also explain why kidnapping is the preferred method.
Oldarmourer 6th Jun 2019, 8:35 AM edit delete reply
I considered her, and the tech they were given to kidnap Lynn in the first place. She certainly has motive and possibly the ability depending on how careless the Prince of Douchiness was when he was handing out tools, but somehow it seems too intricately planned to be coming from her and while she might have escaped the cell she was in during the confusion, I sort of think she'd be shot on sight in Nova Roma, New Troy and most of the wastelands, even Breaker wouldn't see her as a good customer.
DLKmusic 10th Jun 2019, 1:57 AM edit delete reply

One major possibility you missed was the corporation that Doc Silver was outsourcing to when she was drafted for Lynn's rescue.

If I recall they were working on some cutting edge assassination technology at the time, and the Evil Duo left a particularly huge plot seed there!
Oldarmourer 10th Jun 2019, 12:30 PM edit delete reply

just not very clearly..and I agree, there was definitely a setup there, we're still waiting for the pitch.

no doubt, it's been awhile since the ladies have presented us with a truly outstanding scene of gore and destruction served up in the way they do so well...whoever it is very probably has no idea the level of retribution that is about to unfold now that all involved have had a nap and reloaded...

To paraphrase a quote from a movie that seems appropos for the moment...

"Who is it ? Who's the twinkle-toed little murderturd butt-fucker who's just signed their own death warrant ?"
megados 5th Jun 2019, 5:22 PM edit delete reply

Noctis isn't one to blindly follow orders without a reason or from a credible source. It could be something as simple as a faux abduction to a party for Lynn. Noctis might go along with that. Otherwise it would have to be someone with authority over her, (I can't think of anyone besides Maxus, and even at that, she is following orders from him at this time out of courtesy, since he has not yet been confirmed as Lord Regent.) Beyond someone of authority, it might have to be a question of coercion. It's hard to envision that, because it would have to leverage a threat to New Rome, or Acantha, which this already is. To coerce Noctis via inhibitor, would again necessitate authority high enough to supersede her core duty to New Rome, and the Throne. It's hard to say where this is going.
Oldarmourer 5th Jun 2019, 5:30 PM edit delete reply
I'm guessing it's going straight into a long narrow hole..even if it is an exercise or demonstration, Lynn and Acantha are both going to be royally pissed and something's going to die...messily...and if we're lining up characters for assasination, Cella's expendable, Noctis isn't...please ;)
megados 5th Jun 2019, 5:59 PM edit delete reply

No, I don't want to lose Noctis to be sure, but I don't think anyone's expendable either. Noctis is fast enough to stay out of harm's way, but she would put herself between actual harm and Acantha, and possibly Lynn. I envision Cella's capability to be similar, since she showed interest in sparring with Noctis. (I think Noctis would maybe have an edge, because it strikes me that Noctis would be more practiced) That makes me think she also would be able to stay out of harm's way, but would put herself between harm and Lynn or possibly Acantha.
knuut 5th Jun 2019, 6:36 PM edit delete reply
We are talking about the point defenses of a surviving city AI ... able to deal with inbound threats that may reach 100+ Km/sec.(worst case orbital bombardment) or worse. No way is Noctis that fast. If Centcom wants Noctis disabled or killed, Noctis will be disabled or killed. (I would envision a touching after-action scenario where Dr. Silver removes Noctis's inhibitor while Calliope Taylor replaces her missing arms and legs).
megados 5th Jun 2019, 7:13 PM edit delete reply

Likely true, however I don't think we're dealing with CentComm here, plus I don't think CentComm is going to unleash that kind of fury with Lynn and Acantha present. It wouldn't make sense. CentComm, being that sophisticated an AI, should be able to see that Noctis isn't orchestrating this. We're talking a couple of gutters. Besides, we got to see CentComm's opinion of Noctis' capability when they first arrived! ;)
Oldarmourer 5th Jun 2019, 7:57 PM edit delete reply
went back and reread a few pages, now I'm wondering how anyone knew to track that particular car, espescially since both Cella and Noctis probably scanned it quite thoroughly for bugs and beacons, how anyone got to that particular shop that fast and why Athena left at exactly that time...diplomats and politicians, even if you like them, can't be trusted...but surely the Devious Duo wouldn't do anything to besmirch a poor old granny's reputation ;)

Oldarmourer 7th Jun 2019, 5:51 PM edit delete reply
or maybe not...there are so many twists, turns, subplots, characters that have only seen a brief flash of on-screen dialogue that may yet become major players, and players we haven't even seen hints of yet that you need a massive flow chart to sort them all out.

We've been focused on the 12-year (ten day) subplot of Lynn's kidnapping and retrieval, and mostly only on that, without stopping to think that it in itself might be an insignificant subplot to what's coming down the pipe and only a start point to the real story...Lynn might have been rescued only to be sacrificed on the pyre of plot requirements, she might not make it out of the square.

When all is said and done and the speculation and reader brainstorming has run it's course, We still get what we're given, not what we beg for.

I trust the Devious Duo to surprise us all, it's trheir job and one they do oh so well. I might not like some of the surprises but they make the story work, and compared to them, G.R.R. Martin is a care bear.

As the band said..."you ain't seen nothin' yet!"

It will be interesting to see what happens when/if Cella deploys the integrated bodyshield it seems reasonable to assume Cella is equipped with. (Since TeeDee and Ada had them, hard to imagine Cella doesn't.) Of course, since Noctis has seen these and would probably assume Cella has one, it does leave one to wonder why she has chosen the tack that she has. Meaning simply that there are things yet to be revealed, since at the moment all we have is 2 + 2 + x = 5?
megados 9th Jun 2019, 1:58 PM edit delete reply

I have to agree; there's more than meets the eye here. Being a White Angel has to count for something, and while she was initially startled by Noctis' move, she doesn't seem particularly alarmed by it, not even giving it mention in her thought. Noctis herself doesn't seem to have harmful intent here, as she seems to simply be going through the motions, without even looking at Cella. One would think that an honest attack against a White Angel would at least involve keeping one's eye on the subject.
Oldarmourer 9th Jun 2019, 7:05 PM edit delete reply
I'm thinking that if Noctis IS being compelled to follow orders she doesn't like, then she's interpreting them exactly as given...EXACTLY...and we know how good she is at following orders directly or using any tiny bit of leeway she perceives in the way she wants to ;)
megados 9th Jun 2019, 9:05 PM edit delete reply

Yep, that's Noctis to a T. Something that doesn't make complete sense, is that Cella doesn't pay any more attention to Noctis than it takes to keep her neck off of the sword. I'm a little surprised she hasn't tried talking to Noctis in speed-speak/squeak-speak, but we don't know about the car ride here. I think she's more aware than she lets on.

why is nothing happening ,(cuz all this weird stuff, an no alarms, vaporized arms, no commandos, and Cilia NOT reacting.!!), cuz CentComm knows.! an i think CentComm told Noctis to let it happen.. ( i guessed this when i was replying to puppy "Sheela".).. these gals are minnows ,, Centy wants the shark.!!
again this is CentComm.!! she don't do half ass..( get minions , an leader keeps coming.. ORE. get the leader, glass the base, an any who run.) and don't forget, they did this in HER town...

yup, when visiting heads of states go walkabout there are layers upon layers of security that are SUPPOSED to go unnoticed, snipers on far-off rooftops, etc. The fact that there are no visible persons in the park is probably a testament to the completeness of the security, most likely the surrounding buildings each have a presence and the park was cleared deliberately...given Cent-comm's personal interest in these particular individuals and what she'd have to deal with if anything happened to them, something smells a little rotten in Denmark (don't roll in it, Sheela.) methinks this is going to be quick, brutal and messy and give Acantha another quick lesson in how New Troy deals with threats.

Now as to how these two gutters got there...
can their tech override all security channels ? or defeat actual eyes-on as opposed to camera feeds ? does Cent-comm depend too much on electronic surveillance and not the old fashioned MK-I eyeball ? Or were they allowed to get this far not knowing their new toys were already broken ? Or is the unknown puppetmaster behind this really that good ? we'll find out all this and more...when the Devious Duo feels like telling us...maybe

as i was reminded... Grounder's not gutters.. ("I learned grounder to annoy mom.!!").. so grounder inside,, gutter outside.!
@Oldarmourer: yeah , agree with the 1st part.. 2nd part also,, but,, as Centy said, she can see every where, but don't look every where,, it takes to much time..( an W.A.G. here.. 'they are always coming up with a better mouse trap.' so when she finds a new one, reverse engineer it,. "an leave it." so they think they are getting one over on her.. till she HAS to intercede.!! like now.!

she doesn't 'look' everywhere, although I'd warrant this particular excursion would warrant her personal attention, but I'd be very, very, very surprised if she doesn't have white angels, highly evolved computers, the NTPD and even human operatives assigned to scan every possible square inch of the city and report anything out of the ordinary. I've operated surveillance cameras in high security areas for years when it was my turn in the cage, and it's a lot easier than you'd think to spot something abnormal when you're not even watching the screens intently, even when they freeze something just looks 'different' I can't really describe it,and a computer or android doesn't get bored or take breaks or even blink. We'll see Wednesday, barring any catastrophe with one of our Dear Duo, I usually dread Wednesdays but this one should be worth waiting for, it's piqued my interest more than a lot of scenes so far and I thought they were cliffhangers :)

'Look' everywhere is precisely what Central Command and Control was built to do. If it isn't big enough to do the job it almost certainly has the capacity to make itself bigger. We may get distracted by the pink haired love puppet but 3C is a stone cold killing machine that does not waver or sleep. Fortunately, it has currently chosen to put itself in defensive mode.

"squeak speak" now THAT should be canon :)

I'm trying to think if Katya or even Dusty used the term but if they didn't, they should have !!

Dusty mentions squeaks, that's basically where I got it from, but I don't recall the term being used that way though. :D

well it's gonna be now....
Oldarmourer 11th Jun 2019, 8:54 AM edit delete reply

Maybe the Devious Duo have set up all of this to get Lynn to a Surprise Birthday party. :)

we might find out tomorrow, I'm a little nervous though, we haven't seen a comment from either TR or CC for a week now...
knuut 11th Jun 2019, 4:06 PM edit delete reply
Probably means they are busy plotting our frustration.
Oldarmourer 11th Jun 2019, 5:24 PM edit delete reply
or they're both glued to the screen playing city of heroes...Cent already wore her mouse and keyboard out on it ;)

I just get a little worried when the cone of silence drops like that, I don't want to hear that Cent was in the hospital again and TR was too busy cursing out nurses to tell us :)

Never really understood computer gaming. Way too much fun to hit people for real.
megados 11th Jun 2019, 9:27 PM edit delete reply

@Oldarmourer, sometimes Cent and Rose don't speak because they don't want to give away the plot. It is enjoyable when they join the discussion, though.

If something goes wrong, I think one or both of them would say something. I hope so anyway.
