The new pages look great. I am a little surprised and how many changes went into them still very nice.

Calliope now comes with 85% more emotion! :D

I know right! - Thats another thing I HATED about the old pages .. she was like la dee da ! no problem im ok your ok.. Sheeesh.

I particulaly like panel 3, she looks REALLY upset!

That said, the blue crying text seems oddly out of place .. dunno why.
Kinda looks more like a small baby crying, than an adult ? It's kinda hard to define.

It does seem off somehow. Maybe because we are used to the vocalizations being in a bubble?
Sheela 18th Aug 2015, 7:45 AM edit delete reply

True.
But then you'd have to mix it all up in the word bubbles, and it would become an unholy mess.

@Sheela
The childlike crying text was completely intentional on my part. Calli is meant to come across as much more emotionally fragile. And let's face it, no matter how grown-up someone might be, there are times when "I want my mom" is a pretty powerful impulse. Dolly is very much "Mom" to Calli.

That off-key detachment COULD work if you were aiming for a Valium subplot (mommy's little helper!). But that subplot would probably end up taking over the narrative, so this is better.

First: I love how in the first three panels you can see Calli progress from shock to sheer emotion. Second: That look on Dolly's face in the last panel is perfect; it looks like she's about to turn large and green. Third: This page is a perfect example of what I was talking about with The Last of Us emotional effect.

The emotions are very palpable! A mother's worst nightmare, and Dolly is determined to fix this!
