Um...yeah. That's an entirely different kettle of fish, isn't it? If she accepts she should be prepared for it to be used. With the situation in Roma, I wouldn't be surprised that they will require a demonstration of the collars functionality before admittance. It is a paranoid city to begin with and they have to know that CentComm would try something other than a diplomatic solution to this crisis.
Stormwind13 3rd Jul 2013, 9:58 PM edit delete reply

And a Happy 4th to you too.

Gah, the Major has a point, but I don't think it is a good ENOUGH point.

And LOVED Mr. Black's suggestion to Marcus, step up top indeed. :-D
Mister Black 4th Jul 2013, 11:52 AM edit delete reply

I'm not saying that the Major doesn't have a point (believe it or not). This is one of those times when my deeply ingrained habit of playing for any advantage I can find might bite us all in the anatomy. Wearing a 'live' inhibitor turns Connie from a tactical asset into a potential liability. Wearing what *looks* like an inhibitor means that she's going to be underestimated in any situation we find ourselves in. Given the odds we're bucking on this run, I'll take any little sliver of advantage I can.
Marcus Ramesy 4th Jul 2013, 2:59 PM edit delete reply

my suggestion is merely that.. a suggestion.. I don't like to rely on the complacency of others
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 3:45 PM edit delete reply

Well, put on a real one, but give her access codes that lets her override it in case things gets bad, if that's possible ?
cattservant 3rd Jul 2013, 10:17 PM edit delete reply

Connie's being triple teamed!

[The metaphorical fish are schooling. Time for Connie to spread her fins and glide!]
highlander55 3rd Jul 2013, 10:34 PM edit delete reply

Bullshit, Time to lift her skirt and run like hell. We don't know what went on in that meeting except he raised his hand to be sworn in for something. She could be an expendable commodity for all we know.
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 6:22 AM edit delete reply

Heh, reminds me of a game where some of the mooks would uttter "Noone told me I was expendable." as you defeated them. :D
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 8:06 AM edit delete reply

She's anything *but* expendable. Remember, they have two androids with them who won't be wearing a collar. And if something goes wrong, between Mr. Black, Dr. Silver, Ada, Teedee, and Marcus (who really does have a point, and is making it clear that he's not happy about it) will likely do everything they can to protect her. And at least some of them would probably sacrifice the mission to do that.
Mister Black 4th Jul 2013, 11:56 AM edit delete reply

I don't know how to break this to you, but everybody involved in this mission is expendable to some degree. To CentCom, we're *all* expendable (and I'm not at all convinced that we won't be 'expended' before this is over). To Dr. Silver, everybody but Connie is expendable. You get the idea?
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 3:26 PM edit delete reply

No, no....to Centcomm, everyone's expendable. to Dr. Silver, only Marcus and yourself are expendable (remember, Connie's not the only android on the team). To you, *nobody* is expendable. To Marcus, all that matters is completing the objectives.

(this is a guesstimation based on what's been seen in the comic so far, keep in mind)
Marcus Ramesy 4th Jul 2013, 3:51 PM edit delete reply

This is my team, and though the mission objectives are beyond important.... no member of my team is expendable, it is a waste of talent and resources to just throw bodies at the mission... if we wanted to use disposable assets, this would be a team of nothing but robots... in the greater scheme of things, all the androids are "expendable" in the sense that they can be flashed and backed up if something critical happens to them.. Dr. Silver, Mr. Black and my self.... not so much... there is no back up plan for the humans... not cover under our insurance plan.. .but regardless.. in my book .. no one is expendable.. every one on this team brings a very needed skill to the mission and with out any of them the chances of mission success drops..
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 3:58 PM edit delete reply

Very good points, and ones I should have kept in mind when choosing my words. :P
cattservant 4th Jul 2013, 5:20 PM edit delete reply

O&G
velvetsanity 3rd Jul 2013, 11:11 PM edit delete reply

Oh dear...
Rashala 3rd Jul 2013, 11:19 PM edit delete reply

MArcus =A unapologetic.. .Practical. Man...who takes any advantage he can for his team

and TEdee + The Guyver Unit = End of the World :)
velvetsanity 3rd Jul 2013, 11:33 PM edit delete reply

out-of-control Teedee + Guyver = rampaging murder machine that has to be put down...and that's not an acceptable situation :P
Rashala 4th Jul 2013, 1:20 AM edit delete reply

true but who would she go after first?
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 6:37 AM edit delete reply

She'd go after the person with the most aggro.
Rashala 4th Jul 2013, 5:04 PM edit delete reply

Translation......she;'d go After Centcomm :)
mjkj 4th Jul 2013, 3:42 AM edit delete reply

And most probably not feasible either...
Draginbeard 3rd Jul 2013, 11:39 PM edit delete reply

Happy 4th!
plymayer 4th Jul 2013, 1:45 AM edit delete reply

It is really a matter of trust. A bit rougher than say hand cuffs, but the same idea I suppose with stronger ramifications.

Have fun this week, be safe though. Happy independence day.
mjkj 4th Jul 2013, 3:46 AM edit delete reply

Oh, poor Connie *hugs her*

I think it would be more feasible to use a real collar in a controlled environment (like here in the Beast) where trustworthy people are (and back up in Teedee and Ada) and show her how the inhibition works and later on give her a fake one and she can fake the results...
Stormwind13 4th Jul 2013, 6:24 AM edit delete reply

That sounds like a workable plan. Though I'm not sure I would want to pull Teedee into ANYTHING right at the moment.
If Connie found out how the inhibitor worked then she probably could mimic the appropriate responses later for the Mr. Black's special inhibitor.
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 6:38 AM edit delete reply

Unfortunately, I don't think they have the time to do that.
Stormwind13 4th Jul 2013, 7:09 AM edit delete reply

Not sure how fast Connie can 'learn'. And not sure how good her 'acting' skills are to start with. You could give me 10 years and professional lessons, and I would probably STILL suck at it. Still she has had to deal with stress before, I mean she had d!ckwad for a boss, so she might be okay with it.
Not checking to see if she would have any chance to pull it off though might be a worse mistake. The inhibitor seems to be triggering near primal fear in Connie (and most androids), so inflicting that on her might make her MORE likely to do something that gets attention at a bad time.
Marcus Ramesy 4th Jul 2013, 1:50 PM edit delete reply

think of it this way.. the collar is a pupetmaster device.. taking away the androids free will and makes them do what EVER the user intended.. it interfaces with the MACCS system and overrides motor control.. who wouldn't be afraid of it?
Centcomm 4th Jul 2013, 1:55 PM edit delete reply

the M.A.C.C.s system is the basicly the "master control" for all the body functions. and can ma nipulate any volintary function.
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 3:29 PM edit delete reply

Inhibitor collar = invasion of the body snatchers. The mind is free to think what it wants and to fight all it wants, but the body is completely controlled by the collar. I'm sure there have been horror movies by the hundreds that called for something similar to an inhibitor collar in the script (those ones would have obviously been fake costume props, of course)
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 3:48 PM edit delete reply

In the comic universe, a mainstay of android horror movies would probably involve an inhibitor collar and someone ordering them to hurt someone they love.
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 3:56 PM edit delete reply

Like that psycho did to Kelly.
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 4:57 PM edit delete reply

Indeed.
CyberSkull 4th Jul 2013, 3:55 AM edit delete reply

It's shitty, but he's absolutely correct. The only way to fake it is to have the real thing. You never know if someone high ranking enough will come along and want to "verify" it.
JustNoPoint 4th Jul 2013, 8:29 AM edit delete reply

How'd I miss so many pages?
She said "know"... that's pretty similar to "no"!

And yes, happy fourth =D
Centcomm 4th Jul 2013, 3:14 PM edit delete reply

hehe - shes really not happy with the way this convo is going.. :D
Draginbeard 4th Jul 2013, 2:07 PM edit delete reply

Couldn't they rig a way for her to disable the inhibitor when the time comes?
Centcomm 4th Jul 2013, 3:14 PM edit delete reply

If its "live" no. as it will actively defeat any attempt to remove or alter it by the andriod. ( unless its been altered to allow it *winks* )
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 3:32 PM edit delete reply

Now *that* is an idea...and kinkier androids might actually use one that's modified in that fashion (one that is altered to *never* prevent the wearer from removing it in any manner, perhaps identifying an attempt to remove it via the mind sending the signals for the necessary motions to the MACCS)
Sheela 4th Jul 2013, 3:50 PM edit delete reply

Heh, kinky androids doing the S&M mindcontrol dominion games with an inhibitor collar that has a "safe word" buildt into it?
Very kinky. :)
Eldoran 4th Jul 2013, 3:36 PM edit delete reply
What about a simple remote control to turn it off?

I like Draginbeards idea though, a normally working inhibitor, except it allows the victim to turn it off/remove it (sound fairly complex though)
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 4:01 PM edit delete reply

It likely would be very complex. I bet Dr. Silver could have it sorted out and finished by the time Connie made her decision if someone were to suggest it to her, though.
cattservant 4th Jul 2013, 4:25 PM edit delete reply

Exhibit the inhibited inhabitants,
Liberate the prohibited protagonist!

["Set my chickens free!"]
KarToon12 4th Jul 2013, 6:03 PM edit delete reply

I'm with CyberSkull. I would trust my friends enough to take care of me and just use the real thing, because what if someone wants to check that it's real?
velvetsanity 4th Jul 2013, 6:10 PM edit delete reply

She doesn't know any of them that well yet, though, and really, an inhibitor collar is kind of one of the worst fears of probably just about every android...
highlander55 4th Jul 2013, 8:13 PM edit delete reply

Remember- Who knows what the requirements are for an android coming into the city for the first time. Could be extreme for someone not built in New Rome. Could be horrifying to Connie by something like a Low Jack for androids used by the government.
Caley Tibbittz Collopy 23rd Jul 2013, 1:26 PM edit delete reply

Bloody SMART writing. Love that first panel, and then all the other ones after it.
