Mira stands up for herself. And honors the trust put in her (and well paid for). :-)

At your service = fuck off? Dolly!!! Wash your mouth out with SOAP! :-D
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 12:25 AM edit delete reply

Well to be fair is can mean many things depending on the context and tone ..
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 1:40 AM edit delete reply

And I'm sure there are terabytes of intonational implication attached to such a simple statement.
["At your service..."]
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 1:41 AM edit delete reply

exactly my point..
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 1:47 AM edit delete reply

Well,
There's one good thing about New Troy...
They 'jump' through hoops there
Rather than 'shoot' them!
Rashala 19th Nov 2013, 3:41 AM edit delete reply

Yeah I mean If TEdee was gonan say it she'd just SAy Eff you to your face...

And that's if she was feeling polite.
Computant 14th Aug 2016, 12:15 AM edit delete reply
"As you wish"
Tokyo Rose 19th Nov 2013, 5:16 PM edit delete reply

Anyone who's been in the military is familiar with this same concept, only involving the word "sir". It can mean so very, very many things . . .
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 8:00 PM edit delete reply

Very true Rose; however, Mira made a 'blanket' statement and I had to respond to that. I mean, Dolly used to be in LOVE with that comment. :-D And sadly all the readers interpret 'tones' differently, especially in this format where the individual's personality and outlook color what they read into each scene (as has been shown several times in the comments sections' discussions :-D).
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 8:02 PM edit delete reply

Dolly generally always used as a respectful responce.
Mark_L_A 8th Sep 2015, 7:06 PM edit delete reply

As You Wish "The Princess Bride" is how Dolly says it.
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 8:18 PM edit delete reply

Vive la difference!
velvetsanity 10th Jun 2017, 8:22 AM edit delete reply

"With all due respect, sir..." (or ma'am, as the case may be)
Don B. 19th Nov 2013, 12:21 AM edit delete reply
Like I said, no nonsense. I like how she keeps her sense of humor while cutting to the chase.
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 1:40 AM edit delete reply

yep thats our Mira..
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 12:30 AM edit delete reply

And now we know for SURE she is visiting Calliope. Not to say she might not have OTHER messages to deliver too, but we will have to wait and see on that. :-)
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 1:40 AM edit delete reply

yep because im no comment :D
Dragonrider 19th Nov 2013, 12:32 AM edit delete reply

SMART GIRL!!!! Almost bet the message tells Calli, among other things, that her DNA makes her Centcomm's boss so she can solve some the ass hattery that our AI has been playing with.
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 1:40 AM edit delete reply

hehe - again love the comments but i cant say..
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 7:33 AM edit delete reply

I can't remember,
Does Dolly know about
The DNA thing?
Sheela 19th Nov 2013, 8:08 AM edit delete reply

I don't think so.

But she does know that her ship was sabotaged.
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 7:49 PM edit delete reply

On the page Venting (currently page 221) CentComm flat out tells Dolly that Lynn is in the hands of New Rome and she MUST be gotten out of their hands to prevent them from accessing CentComm's systems and "doom us all." Rescue Lynn or eliminate her. Which Dolly does NOT take very well. :-)

Now Calliope doesn't know near as much, as seen when Cella (and Marcus) are summoned before CentComm. During that Discussion (currently page 656) CentComm tells Cella (and Marcus) that Calliope can override CentComm COMPLETELY, everything. Then CentComm indicates that she has concealed from Calliope the extent of her Helios legacy.

I can see how Dolly might have known (or strongly suspected) beforehand; however, instead of piling worries on Calliope, she may have kept mum (or Mom? :-D) about it. I think the sabotage of her mission though tossed any such restraints out the window. :-)

If Dolly didn't know before she NOW knows that Lynn holds the keys to CentComm's control. CentComm TOLD her (way back in the mists of... the archive :-D).
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 7:59 PM edit delete reply

some one has been archive diving :D
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 8:30 PM edit delete reply

Damn straight! Though I just was VERIFYING what I remembered. :-)
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 9:14 PM edit delete reply

hehe :D
plymayer 19th Nov 2013, 1:03 AM edit delete reply

Jumped through a hoop once. Still paying for the damages.
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 1:41 AM edit delete reply

hey! Hoops can be dangerous :D
Sheela 19th Nov 2013, 6:51 AM edit delete reply

Yet, even tigers can jump them.

While talking about hoops, Krystal seems to be wearing a nice one around her neck ... I'm guessing it might be important to her ?
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 5:23 PM edit delete reply

hehe or it could just be a pretty :D
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 8:22 PM edit delete reply

That's about the right place to wear a holographic recorder.
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 10:28 PM edit delete reply

Lots of eyes would be drawn that direction at least, Cat. :-D
jamie59 19th Nov 2013, 1:44 AM edit delete reply

Mira's keeping her inline. Hope she doesn't blow a fuse from the pressure.
Sheela 19th Nov 2013, 6:49 AM edit delete reply

Krystal also have a bit of "sad panda" feel to her, just like Celeste did.

So, I think she's doing more than just "keeping her in line" ... she's also treating the cute little android as a person, she gave her a choice, rather than just trying to command her to do something. I think this is an important bit, because many wastelanders may have a twisted view of android, but Mira sure doesn't. She has them pegged, sure, but she's also fully aware that they're persons, not just machines.

Couple that with androids fragile self esteem, and suddenly being treated as an equal by a strong willed and attractive human, and the result might come over as really rather flattering for an android who might be a bit lonely, working the boring job in an area devoid of people to talk to.

You could say that Krystal is getting dragged along, even though she's been told explicitly that she can say "no".
Exciting Mira is exciting, and the job is oh so boring. :)
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

hehe and as always readers are observent :D
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 1:53 AM edit delete reply

Yesterday I said
Krystal was finding
Mira's buttons.

Looks like Mira
Has her grip
Firmly around
Krystal's levers!
Sheela 19th Nov 2013, 6:50 AM edit delete reply

The attention lever has been fully gripped!
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 6:55 AM edit delete reply

You're so perceptive
So early in the
Morning!
Sheela 19th Nov 2013, 6:59 AM edit delete reply

She has a strong two handed grip on it!

>_<
Draginbeard 19th Nov 2013, 2:01 AM edit delete reply

Really slick back and forth with the dialog here!
mjkj 19th Nov 2013, 9:33 AM edit delete reply

Well, I like Mira. She looks great and honors her promise and even treads Krystal with respect even though she clearly is trying to make her break her promise.

I think Krystal will be a friend when Mira needs one. :)
Hornet 19th Nov 2013, 9:45 AM edit delete reply
Poor droids going to blow a power coupling before this is over.
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

more that likely >_<
Sleel 19th Nov 2013, 11:45 AM edit delete reply

Just happens to be one of my favorite quotes, especially in context of the ever increasingly intrusive laws in the name of The War on Terror, aka: Implementing Big Brother by Baby Steps.
"Any society that would trade a little freedom to gain a little security, will deserve neither. And lose both." Benjamin Franklin
Not a one of our so-called leaders grasps this concept, anywhere, regardless of nation. As they are all going along with it.
Tokyo Rose 19th Nov 2013, 5:19 PM edit delete reply

While it's tempting to just blame the leaders, it's marginally more fair* to lay equal blame at the feet of the population that lets their leadership get away with so much.

*Yes, I just suggested we should be fair to politicians. Oh God what is wrong with me?!
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 5:24 PM edit delete reply

Schedules Rose for a doctors visit >_<
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 7:13 PM edit delete reply

Well Rose you are probably right, that the voters (instead of the general population) share some blame; however, I would argue that the percentage is NOT 50/50. More like 70/30 or even 80/20... When politicos buy people to lie for them, it is hard(er) for the people to get enough good information to form an intelligent decision. :-p
KarToon12 19th Nov 2013, 12:07 PM edit delete reply

Time to slice up the red tape. XD
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 8:07 PM edit delete reply

Yes indeed ! rawr open season on red tape!
cattservant 19th Nov 2013, 8:25 PM edit delete reply

Yeah!
Lets get her weasel inspected!
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 8:37 PM edit delete reply

Mira could probably invent something that would GLEEFULLY chew up all the red tape it came to. :-)
Don B. 19th Nov 2013, 9:06 PM edit delete reply
"Somebody said somethin' about that once..." Wanna bet she remembers the quote exactly word for word?
Centcomm 19th Nov 2013, 9:15 PM edit delete reply

Hehe - thats a sucker bet.. given what shes said so far..
Stormwind13 19th Nov 2013, 10:31 PM edit delete reply

Mira may sound hick, but I think there is a world class brain in that pretty chassis. :-D
Don B. 20th Nov 2013, 12:48 AM edit delete reply
I suspect part of it is her keeping the citified folk off balance but most of it is a result of growing up in the wastes.
Steven-Vincent 10th Nov 2015, 6:26 PM edit delete reply

One thousand pages. I can't imagine getting that high... Even 100 seems pretty darn far away right now.

This is a testament to how good the various aspects of DC have been all along -- story, art, characters, plot, dialogue, world. If it wasn't all there, in spades, you could not have made it to 1000.
